The 60 mm Mortar M60MA Long Range is used to support its own military units using indirect fire.  The curved trajectory allow the rounds to rain down from above, directly on troops, vehicles, buildings, etc. that are in defilade or out of line of sight for firing.  Using multiple M60MA units at once and firing different types of rounds can be extremely devastating to the enemy.  At night they can also provide illumination to help with target identification.
